I’m getting to a certain age where things start to have a crystal-like clarity. We all know our time is finite but reaching a certain milestone brings this into sharp focus. I know now it’s really important that I spend time doing the things I find rewarding but also, the things I most enjoy. Hence, we have moved out of the city to a rural part of Scotland and a lifestyle I wouldn’t have imagined a few years ago.
At Asentiv we talk about the ‘amazing business and spectacular life’, that it isn’t enough just to be busy (or making money for that matter), that it is about our health, wellbeing, happiness and fulfilment.
What is the spectacular life you might ask?
For me it’s what you want it to be. Our happiness can be defined by what we actually want (or need) and certainly isn’t measured by material objects.
My wife Fiona told me about a ‘what would you do if you won the lottery?’ conversation with colleagues some years ago. To much amusement, one chap said his big win would be spent on his burning desire; a static caravan at a well-known and not overly ostentatious resort in Scotland, that he could take his family to on weekends.
‘Is that it!?’, was the astonished response.
His answer though, was the right one. For him.
Our vision for a spectacular life can set out by answering a few simple questions, which we do on our Asentiv courses. I’m always inspired by what I hear and how simple people’s aspirations are. I’m reminded of when I see young children at their happiest. At the beach with a bucket and spade, without gizmos, electronic games or having a fortune spent on them. They are leading the spectacular life and we can all be like that again.
· What for you is the spectacular life?
· What would it give you if you had it?
· What do you need to do (business or personal) to take the first steps towards that?
